A practice built around one repeated hour.

Intellect Harvest Financial Planning exists to sit with households about personal savings habits and to keep a monthly plan review on paper. The work is done in a room in Su-ngai Kolok, in Thai, Malay, or English, with the sheet written in the language the household reads.

Aminah Lateh

Aminah is the principal. She studied bookkeeping at a vocational college in Narathiwat and then spent eight years on the cash books of a family provision shop along Charoenkhet, after an earlier stretch reconciling daily takings at a rubber-buying shed in Tak Bai. Households began asking her to sit with them once a month because payday, market credit, and festival outlays kept landing in the same week.

She still refuses a yearly savings figure until an ordinary week has been described. That stubbornness is the method. She attends the household-finance gatherings held by the provincial community-development office when they fall on a Monday, the day the sitting room is closed for file work.

Registered name and a short history

The official registered business name is Intellect Harvest Financial Planning. The practice was established in 2016.

It opened that year in a rented room above a tailor, with a second-hand table and a stack of blank monthly sheets Aminah had been using for neighbours. In 2019 the sitting room moved to its current address in Tambon Su-ngai Kolok, close enough to the market that a shopkeeper can come between the morning count and the afternoon restock. Wichai Saelim joined in 2021. He had spent from 2012 to 2020 at a savings-cooperative credit desk in the district, and he now draws the longer household cash maps. The two of them share one file cabinet, one appointment book, and a rule that a sheet is not rewritten to look cleaner than the month was.

Insurance policies and mutual-fund sales are the work of other firms. This practice writes household plans and reviews them.

How the hours are kept

A new household is not handed a monthly review on the first day. If the money still lives only in memory, the first sitting follows one ordinary week and leaves a habit note. If several earners, a stall, and a seasonal clump share the purse, Wichai draws a cash map before any standing review begins. The review itself is seventy-five minutes, one household, and a sheet that both people initial.

Files stay in the cabinet in Su-ngai Kolok. Copies that go home are the household’s. We do not carry the plans to a seminar to use as examples unless the household has agreed in writing, and so far none has been asked.

What we hold to

  • Write the awkward line while everyone who shares it is still in the room.
  • Give festival months and school terms their own amounts, instead of calling them ordinary months that went wrong.
  • Keep ringgit and baht on separate lines when both are in the house.
  • Leave a savings transfer small enough that a poor Saturday does not cancel it.
  • Speak in the language the sheet will be read in.

Wichai Saelim

Wichai takes the cash-map sittings and the monthly reviews that follow a map still being corrected. He is patient with sheets that have four names on them and impatient with totals that add baht to ringgit for the sake of a round figure. Households who want the quarterly council usually meet Aminah; if their map needs the quarter’s dates drawn on, he joins for the first half hour and then leaves the signatures to her.
